Transition to Retirement

You’ve spent years developing your practice and building relationships with your patients and your team. As you begin to consider transitioning from active practice to retirement, it is important to take the time to plan for how you will assess the options for dealing with your practice and prepare your business, patients, team, and medical files for this transition. This module will explore some of the options for transferring or closing your medical practice, as well as discuss some of the professional and legal responsibilities for physician’s transitioning out of active practice.

After completing this online learning module, you will be able to:

  1. Outline the steps involved in finding a physician to take over your practice.
  2. Describe how to transfer the care of your patients to other physicians.
  3. Discuss how to close down your practice, if required.
  4. Explain the professional and legal responsibilities of physicians leaving medical practice.
